This yard must be in a bad neighbourhood, someone stole the wheels!

The older railroad cars were so much more interesting. The only thing the modern equipment has going for it is the colourful graffiti! Newer equipment is like newer buildings, built quick and utilitarian.

You have to respect the people who built these cars. All those rivets would have been inserted one at a time, by two men (or women during the war), one down inside the tank, and one outside. You can bet they weren’t wearing any hearing protection and the noise in there would have certainly been deafening while the work was completed bent over inside the cramped tank, for 12 hours a day.

It was a bit hidden behind some other cars, but thanks to a telephoto lens I was able to get a bit of a shot of it. It is sitting way down in the end of the storage tracks in Paris. The trucks have been removed and it is sitting up on blocks. I think the nearby gravel pit uses it for water storage.

I have some other shots of it, I will post these later….

Strange that the railroads are quite efficient in removing anything old, except for the telegraph poles. These always seem to be left behind. I don’t imagine these have been used in some time.

Seems like they had one of each type on this pole.
