Ok, enough house pictures. If we buy the place I will post some more, but now, back to the tracks…

This is the same as this picture from a few months back. This time I decided to walk up on the highway bridge above it and get a shot looking down on the entire piece of trackwork. Not to often I find a spot to get a picture of unusual trackwork like this.

Its interesting to see from this viewpoint, it is quite a long turnout.

  1. Hey Tim,

I noticed in your pictures of industrial sidings, they don’t use guardrails in the switches. I thought that was curious. Any comments on the subject?
I’m a big fan. Sorry to hear about the impending dismantlement. But I’m looking forward to watching you rebuild.

    Thanks,
    Ryan K.

  2. Hi Ryan,

It isn’t uncommon for turnouts to have no guard rails if they are using a “self-guarded” frog.

Close inspection of this turnout will show there are some raised flanges on the sides of the frog, and these hold the wheel in position while crossing the frog by guarding on the outside of the wheel, rendering the guardrails unnecessary.
