I am often accused of incorporating unnecessary complexity into my trackwork. The prototype never would do that.
The more I look, the more I find examples of this. When trains need to get somewhere, anything will be used. Maybe not as much now, but certainly in the past. This crossing was found in Hamilton, Ontario, and could have easily been replaced with a turnout. Both routes are excessively used, as can be witnessed by the shinny rails. Both routes provide access to parts of Dofasco.
