The Producers on dvd
This is a shot of the other half of the Port Kelsey Ry. The layout goes through the wall and into my shop where the 34th St. yard is located. This section of the layout was built in our last house and moved here. Fortunately it fit in the space I have available here and was able to salvage the 2 years of work I put into the trackwork. Let me tell you about this bird that has moved into our backyard.
The Legend of Zorro trailer We have an old wood barrel that sits by our shed and looks nice for us. Over the last couple of years birds have decided this makes for good living quarters, and have built nests in it every spring. These guys have provided me with lots of entertainment.

Watching the birds try to get the twigs through the little hole is very amusing. Usually they show up with a 12″ long stick sideways in their beak, and naturally that will not fit through the 1″ hole in the barrel. They simply try flying through the hole, and always end up on their back in the grass. Since this doesnt work, they back up a few feet and try again, with the same results. A few feet further back and another ram at it, again, they end up in the grass. In frustration, they drop the twig in front of the barrel and go get another one. Then go through the entire routine again.
What we end up with is a pile of little twigs in front of the barrel. Eventually they manage to cram a few into the hole and build the nest.
We must have evolved from birds….

This is the prototype of a kit I started over a year ago (has it really been that long!). I believe we are getting closer to the point I can return to its development and ultimate production. There was lots of interest in it on the weekend at the layout tour, and I know several modelers are looking forward to it.
The design is pretty much complete, but I still have to cut out the latest version and to a test build. After that comes the unpleasant task of writing the documentation for it 🙁
