Control Panels

Bronze control panels

Wanting something unique for my control panels I decided to make something that looks like an old bronze plaque that has been exposed to the elements for many years…

Its hard to get a decent picture of these as they are fairly dark in color. What do you think?

November 24 update

I liked the look of the control panel so much I thought I would add a bronze “builder plate” to the front of the upper deck of the layout, again, the pictures do not do it much justice…

  1. Tim,

Very cool. That is a very unique and original control panel. What type of switches will you use, standard toggles may end up a bit to “silvery”, but I’m sure you will come up with something equally as cool. Must be nice having all those machine tools lying around the shop (including a CNC machine?)

  2. Thanks Chris,

This was made on a laser cutter. Besides cutting, lasers are very good at engraving, can make complete building fronts with them. A very neat tool to have around.

I will be using some home made push buttons on the panel, all that will show is a small 1/8″ protrusion. I will also have some subtle lights to indicate routes.

  3. What manufacturer/model # of “laser engraver” are you using?

    Thanks for the great site!
